Bread & Cheese
Author: Tigran Khachatryan

Implemented in the frame of the project "Piligrimation" curated by Arman Grigoryan

Place: Ayrivank, Armenia
Year: 2002

In the performance, the Football World Cup Championship is the sublimation of the World War. Armenia has skipped the process. A battlefield is a sacred place, and so is the stadium where the football fans come together. Being unable to attend the "football sacred place" and sitting in "Armenia -the Promised Land", the Armenian football fan is watching the victory of his "historical enemy". A joke was made by the football commentator who said that «the reason for the victory lies in the fact that they had eaten a lot of bread & cheese together». The artist ridicules the incoherence that persisted between the fans who sang Beethoven's «All people become brothers» in the stadium and the fans that provoked ethnic conflicts if their national team lost the match.
