Intimus
Author: Achot Achot (Achot Ghazarian)
The performance was realised for the opening of the exhibition «April 16».
Venue: Modern Art Museum, Yerevan
Year: 1989
The author was sleeping in a bed in the exhibition space, confusing the visitors. Then a woman came to bring him the newspaper and joined him in the bed. Then Achot Achot woke up, got dressed and left before another man got in the bed. The impression of intimacy is reinforced by the canvas of an amateur painter on the wall and the presence of domestic objects under the bed: stockings, beauty products, etc., scattered on a carpet. The performance was thus disrupting the idea of intimacy as something hidden, turning it into an event that everyone can watch. The idea is that an artist’s life cannot be intimate and is necessarily public whether they want it or not. The performance survived throughout the exhibition as an installation.
